Improved Speakeasy Voice Output Communication Aid has Everyone Talking!

Since 1993, the SpeakEasy Voice Output Communication Aid has been a versatile and useful device for beginning communicators. Now, in response to feedback from teachers, therapists, families, and others, AbleNet, Inc. has added several new features that make the SpeakEasy communication aid easier and more convenient to use.

"We've made the SpeakEasy communication aid simpler to program," said Peggy Locke, Ph.D., AbleNet's director of education services. "Friends, family members and even peers can learn to program, change or delete messages in less than a minute."

Other new features include an on/off switch to prevent accidental activations and an easy-to-open standard 9-volt battery drawer. It's significantly smaller and lighter - - weighing only one pound and measuring 7 1/2 inches x 5 1/2 inches x 1 3/4 inches, which makes it easy for anyone to transport the device.

In addition, the SpeakEasy communication aid now includes a cable connection that allows it to control one or two battery - or electrically - operated toys or appliances. The message plays as the toy or appliance connected to the device begins to operate, pairing speech with a reinforcer.

"Of course, the SpeakEasy communication aid is still designed for beginning communicators," said Locke, "because you can access the messages via the keypad and/or external switch. It's still made of rugged, high impact plastic for durability and continues to come with a shoulder strap and AC adapter."
