Workshop Especially for Parents

#57 - Assistive Technology: What Every Parent Should Know

Parents are critical partners in their child's education. When a child with a disability enters the educational system, they also enter a myriad of rules, procedures and policies. With recent legislation, this process occurs as early as birth. In addition, recent developments in the field of technology have opened new avenues for children with disabilities. If parents are to assist their child in this process to obtain the best possible education and services, they need to keep abreast of current developments in technology and legislation.

This workshop is designed for parents of children with disabilities. The session provides an overview of the existence of various computer technologies, software, and assistive devices and their use to enhance learning and sociability. A material fee of $10 provides participants with an extensive array of print materials and a Certificate of Completion. David Grapka, Maywood School, April 17, 1997; 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
