How to write an argumentative essay
Writing an argumentative essay is one of the most interesting tasks. An argumentative essay must start with topic selection. A good controversial topic should be preferred so that it evokes a reaction in the opposition. At once the topic is selected; authors must be proceeding to the analysis. He should do research in that selected topic. The author must ask himself a dozen of questions and answer them. He must be ready to voice his viewpoint and stand up for it. An effective argumentative essay must contain certain elements. To make a valid claim, it is better doing a scholarly investigation. The results of this investigation are very much useful in writing the essay. The next logical step would be to search for reputable sources of information. The sources may include state agencies, research facilities, individual scholars, periodicals, etc. The author has to find a supporting argument in the essay to make it more interesting.
Once the research has been completed, now the author is ready to begin the actual writing. It is important to keep in mind is that an argumentative essay should take the regular structure and should contain a thesis, a few body paragraphs, and a conclusion. The length of these parts will vary. The introductory paragraph should contain a brief explanation, some background information and a thesis statement. In this case, the thesis statement will be a statement of the author's position on a particular controversial topic. The body of the essay will contain the meat of the main argument. The author should go into more detail about two sides of the controversy and state the strongest points of the counter-side of the issue. The author will present the own viewpoint and provide strong evidence. In the conclusion, re-state the position as the most sensible one. The essay could be any length.
